Hey, y'all!  I'm back again with another FREE hand-lettered cut file for you!  Recently I did a poll on my Instagram asking people if they had a conversation heart t-shirt what it would say.  I got a lot of great answers, so I decided to combine some of them and some of my own to create a hand-lettered heart design full of positive affirmations.  I love this design because it reminds me who I am, and you can download it later in the post for FREE!

Once I created the design, I knew I wanted to put it on a shirt.  I found an inexpensive sweatshirt at Walmart (Time and Tru brand) and personalized it with my Silhouette Cameo and vinyl from by buddies at Expressions Vinyl.

Hand Lettered Valentine's Day Shirt + Free Cut Files

Hey, y'all!  It's been a hot minute since I've shared anything here on the blog.  I've been busy with work and being mom, so I haven't had much time to devote to my blog, which makes me sad.  Creating projects doesn't take a ton of time, but photographing those projects, editing photos, writing a blog post and adding all the links does.  I'd rather devote that time to having fun with my little man. But this week while he was with his grandparents, my house was clean, and I actually had some time to create, photograph, and blog.  I was so excited!  Today I'm thrilled to show you one of those projects: a hand-lettered Valentine's Day t-shirt that I made for my little man.  Today I'm sharing the FREE cut file with you so that you can make one of your own.  (Don't worry if you're a girl mom because I have a t-shirt design for girls too!)

DIY Rolled Scrap Paper Heart Art

Hey, y'all!  A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of guest posting over at Flamingo Toes as part of Bev's Scrap Busting Extravaganza.  When Bev first contacted me about being a part of the series, I immediately thought of all the scrapbook paper pieces that I have in my craft stash.  I never throw away the scraps because I always think that I can use them for SOMETHING one day.  Finally, I found my something to use my scraps: this Rolled Scrap Paper Heart Art.

What I love most about this project is that I was able to completely craft from my stash, meaning I didn't buy anything to create this pretty art.  To make the scrap art, I used the following supplies:

• Wooden Laser Cut Frame
• Scrap Foam Board
• Scraps of Patterned Paper
• Old Sheet Music
• Printed Heart
• Soy Wood Stain
• Foam Brushes (2)
• Mod Podge
• Hot Glue & Glue Gun
• Craft Knife
• Scissors
• Dowel Scrap
• Ink Pad
• Paper Rose Scrapbook Embellishment

To begin, I stained a scroll-y wooden frame with soy stain.  The fumes from soy stain aren't as bad as with regular stain, so I like to use it when crafting inside.  You should still use it in a well-ventilated area though.

Once the stain was dry, I cut a piece of scrap foam board the size of the opening of the frame plus a little extra overhang so that I could glue the pieces later.

I recently bought six old hymnals from my local Restore, so I cut a page from one of those and used my trusty Mod Podge to adhere the paper to the foam board.

While the Mod Podge was drying, I made the rolled paper heart.  I found a heart image online through a Google image search.  I copied and pasted it into a Word document, sized it to fit inside the frame and printed it.  I then cut strips of patterned paper scraps wide enough to cover the heart template.

I rolled the paper strips over the dowel one full rotation and ran a thin line of glue over the paper.  I then rolled the paper a few more rotations, glued the end, and cut off the excess paper.  I continued to make paper rolls until I had enough to cover the entire heart template.

  I then laid the rolled paper pieces over the heart template and cut them to fit the template exactly.  I started by laying on piece at the end and lightly making a pencil mark where I wanted to cut the paper.  I cut the piece and then glued it to the template.  I repeated the process until the entire heart was filled in.

Then I cut the rolled paper heart out.  I used hot glue to glue the sheet music-covered foam board to the back of the frame and to attach the heart to the center of that.

Because I wanted the heart to stand out a little more, I rubbed the edges and top with an ink pad.  I used a gold ink pad for a subtle look.  And then because the top right part of my heart was a little wonky (that's a technical term), I covered it with a paper rose from my craft stash, completing my art.

This cute little project cost me nothing.  I used scraps and what I had on hand.  I just love projects like this that help me get rid of some of my craft stash!

I love the vintage look of the piece, but by using a different frame and different paper, you could totally change the look of the art to match your personal taste.

Free Printable "Happy Valentine's Day" Gift Tags

Hey, y'all!  I think we established yesterday that it's pretty crazy that Valentine's Day is this weekend. And if you're like me, time may often creep up on you and a holiday--like Valentine's Day--is here before you know it and you have nothing for your Valentine.  Well, today I am coming to your rescue with a cute freebie for you.

I don't know too many people who wouldn't be happy to get candy for Valentine's Day.  But giving just plain candy doesn't seem very festive.  I created these free printable gift tags that you can add to a candy-filled mason jar.  

Download the printable gift tags {HERE}, then print and cut them out.  Attach the tags to a jar with some twine, and, voila!  You have a sweet (pun intended) gift for your Valentine.

The great thing about this printable tag is that it doesn't have to be for your girlfriend/boyfriend or husband/wife.  You could easily use these tags on a gift for a coworker, your child's teacher, or even the mailman.  No matter whose gift you attach a tag to, you're sure to bring a smile to the recipient's face simply because you though of him or her. Free "Bugs & Kisses" Valentine Printables

Hey, y'all!  Can you believe Valentine's Day is this weekend?!  I can't.  It seems like we just celebrated the new year.  Well, whether we can believe it or not, this Saturday is February 14th.  And just in time for that special lovey-dovey day, I have some not-so-pink-and-glittery free printable Valentines--my "Bugs & Kisses" Free Printable Valentine Gift Tags and Bag Toppers.

There are LOTS of free printable girly Valentines on the web, but there aren't that many fun, cute ones for boys or even for girls who don't like pink and hearts.  With that in mind, I created these bug valentines.

You can download the printable bag toppers HERE and the printable gift tags HERE.  Simply put some bugs (mine came from the party aisle in Walmart) in a bag and staple the folded printable over the top or use twine to attach the tags to individual bugs.

The bug lovers in your life are sure to love these valentines.  You could even put Hershey Kisses in the bug bags if you really want to stay true to the "Bugs & Kisses" saying.  I hope your Valentine enjoys these! This post originally appeared at Skip to My Lou Blog on January 30, 2014.

DIY Watercolor Heart-Embellished Pillow

Hey, y'all!  It's no secret that I love to craft, and although I do all different types of crafts, sometimes I feel like I don't always stretch my creativity as much as I should.  Yes, there's a crafting comfort zone, and sometimes I get stuck inside my little zone.  Recently I had the chance to do a mystery box challenge--just the thing I needed to stretch my creativity a bit.  The idea behind the challenge is that a box of mysterious craft supplies was shipped to me, and when I received the box, I had to create something from the supplies.  From all the mystery and creativity stretching, my DIY Watercolor Heart-Embellished Pillow was born.

Now I know you're probably curious what was in my mystery box when it arrived, so here you go...

I received lots of goodies from iLoveToCreate.com: three stencils, a pillow cover, pink paracord, stencil spray adhesive, a roller, Fabric Fusion, and three types of Tulip soft matte fabric paint.  Luckily the rules of the challenge didn't require me to use every single item in the box in this one project.  If it would have, I would probably still be in the corner rocking back and forth freaking out because I couldn't figure out how to put everything together without having a hot mess of a project.  I mean, can you imagine a peace sign, "love," wing paracord painted pillow cover.  I shudder to think.  Anyway, I decided to focus on a few of the supplies and create a pillow cover with a watercolor effect that featured a big pink heart.

I started the project by utilizing the pillow cover.  I selected a bunch of Sharpies from my collection and some alcohol in a spray bottle to create a watercolor look on the pillow cover.  (I tried this technique previously with my Faux Watercolor Makeup Pouch.)

I scribbled over the white pillow cover with several Sharpies.  Notice that I scribbled horizontally.  That helps create a more realistic watercolor effect.  Once I had the pillow cover scribbled completely, I used my spray bottle to saturate the pillow cover with alcohol.  (I laid my pillow cover on waxed paper when completing this step to keep from staining anything.)  I then dried the pillow cover with my hair dryer and repeated the entire process because the colors weren't dark enough for my liking.  This time, though, I dripped alcohol over the cover, and I like the effect that created on the fabric.

Once I dried my pillow cover the last time, I printed a heart sized to fit the corner of my pillow cover.

I cut out the middle of the heart and taped it down onto the pillow cover.  I used the heart as a guide to glue the pink paracord down onto the cover using the Fabric Fusion.  I did two rows of the paracord.

Once the heart was adhered, I decided it needed to pop a little more.  I used Raspberry Tulip Soft Matte fabric paint and a paint brush to fill in the inside of the heart.  I then let the heart dry flat as instructed on the paint bottle directions.  Once the paint was dry, my brand new pillow cover was complete.  I stuffed it with a pillow insert and couldn't wait to snap some pictures of it.

I love how the pillow turned out!  It's a fun piece of Valentine's decor, but since it's not over-the-top Valentine's Day, it can technically be used year-round.

I love that you could create a pillow cover to match your personal style simply by using different color Sharpies and another embellishment in the corner.  Wouldn't a huge letter or number be cute in the corner instead of the heart? I have to say that I was a little intimidated when my mystery box arrived because I was worried that all my creativity would suddenly disappear and I would have no idea what to create.  As soon as I got over that initial intimidation, I had a lot of fun creating this project.  I guess stretching my creativity turned out pretty well.

Free "I Love You Dearly" Valentine Printable

Hey, y'all!  Can you believe it's almost February?  It's seems like we just celebrated New Years!  With February so near, that means Valentine's Day is quickly approaching.  I got a head start on my Valentine's posts a couple of weeks ago when I shared my "Love You Dearly" Valentine Gift Tag.  I had so much fun creating that gift tag that I decided to make a matching art printable to share with y'all.

The masculine deer antlers paired with the watercolor flowers (found free at Angie Makes) are trendy yet timeless, making this printable perfect for your decor.  You can display the print on your Valentine mantel, but, honestly, the it would be lovely all year long in a gallery wall art grouping or in a baby's nursery.

A Guest Post: "I Love U" Wood Pallet Front Porch Decor

Hey, y'all!  I have a great treat for you today.  I recently made a new blogging friend named Bethany. Yep, we're name twins.  She's visiting here today to share a lovely project with you, and I hope you'll give her a very warm welcome.

Hey y’all! I am Bethany from The Southern Couture. And, yes, another Bethany. I don’t hear the name that often so I love when I find someone else with the same name. I love to share fun crafts and DIY projects on my blog which makes it a pleasure for me to be able to join all of you today. 

Celebrating holidays are a must for my house too, which is why I love to create new things to decorate with bringing me to this adorable wood pallet heart décor. I have been looking for something different than the usual Valentine wreath, so I created this “I Love U” wood pallet front porch décor. I was shopping at Joann one weekend and stumbled upon this wood pallet shaped into a heart. I knew I had to have it for Valentine’s décor and couldn’t wait to make something with it. 

This is one of those projects that could be used in so many different places in your house depending on your preference. I love having mine on the front porch. Another great place to use it is over a mantle.   Let’s get started with gathering all the supplies. 

You will need... 

• Heart shaped wood pallet- If you cannot find the wood pallet style, a basic wooden heart would also work great. 

• “I” and “U” wooden letters 
• Sandpaper 
• Paint- You will need different colors for the heart and letters in order to make it pop. 
• Burlap ribbon- Choose the ribbon of your choice if you prefer something besides burlap. I just can’t get enough of it. 
• “Love” stencil 
• Adhesive runner 
• Foam paintbrushes 
• Foam pouncers 
• Hot glue gun and glue sticks 
• Wood glue 
• Paint tray 

First I had to sand my wood pallet heart to give it a smooth finish once it was painted. Depending on what type of wooden heart you use, you may not need to sand it. My letters, for example, were made differently and didn’t need to be sanded. 

Paint your heart and letters with whatever colors you choose. I wanted the heart and letters to be two different colors so the letters would stand out and not just fade into the heart. 

Once the paint has dried completely, you will want to go ahead and attach the ribbon to the back of the heart if you are planning to hang it. Start by measuring the length you will need for the ribbon when hanging it and cut it accordingly. 

Place a dot of hot glue on each side of the top of the heart and place the ribbon into place holding it down until the hot glue hardens. 

Glue your letters onto the heart in whatever arrangement you prefer using wood glue. 

I made a stencil using my Cricut to cut out the phrase “love.” You can also find stencils at most craft stores. Run the adhesive runner over the back of the stencil and press it on the heart. 

Using the foam pouncers, paint the inside of the stencil. 

Let the paint dry completely and remove the stencil. Then you are ready to hang it up once you are happy with the finished product. 

Enjoy this sweet tooth of a holiday, and as I always love to say, enjoy the little things in life too!
