Hey, y'all! I enjoy constantly trying to challenge myself to see items in new ways. Sometimes I wander the aisles of Walmart to try to find items to use in unique ways. In my small town, Walmart is one of the only places to shop that stays open past 5 or 6 o'clock, so that's where I want last Friday night. While was walking through the bathroom accessory aisle, I spotted several soap dishes. I looked at a white one and immediately knew that it really wanted to become a ring dish. (Yes, people, this is how my brain works!) So today I'm sharing the very brief tutorial for my Sharpie-decorated ring dish.
As I already mentioned, the project started with a plain white soap dish that cost me about $2.
Have you seen the Sharpie mugs floating around the web? I've always thought it would be fun to make a Sharpie mug, but I like to put my own spin on projects. I knew that Sharpies would be perfect to use to decorate my little soon-to-be ring dish. It helps that I own lots of Sharpies, so I got a whole bunch of them out to use to decorate my dish.
When I was trying to figure out what I wanted to draw with my Sharpies, I thought of how much I love the flowers on many of the Rifle Paper Co. products. I browsed the products on the website until I found an image I really liked, which just so happened to be one of their Floral Temporary Tattoos. Now a good blogger would have step by step photos of how I recreated the floral image. Saturday I was being a slack blogger. I was drawing while watching my Clemson Tigers play, and I couldn't stop watching the game long enough to take process pics. So all I have to show you is the final product, which is pretty cute if I do say so myself.
After I finished drawing my floral image, I baked the dish in the oven following directions for the Sharpie mugs that I found online. I placed the dish in my cold oven and turned the temperature to 350 degrees. Once the oven was heated to 350, I set my oven timer for 30 minutes. After the time was up, I let the dish cool in the oven. I should mention that some sites say that regular Sharpies like I used won't stay on dishes through washes, but since this is a ring dish, that shouldn't be a problem for me.
I love my little $2 ring dish, and I'm itching to decorate another dish with Sharpies!
