Hey, y'all! My sister and her husband just bought their very first house. When I knew that she was closing on the house, I found out the color of her new front door. As her crafty big sister, I had to make something for her to personalize her new home! So I made her a wreath (that's technically not a wreath) like mine.
While my pink, gold and girly wreath is perfect for me, my sister doesn't like pink as much as I do. Her front door is red. So I decided on this really pretty combo of red and blue/aqua.
I cut the pennants a little different for this one, and I used a wooden letter instead of a cardboard one. The way I put it together was pretty much the same, though. If you want the full tutorial to make your own, you can find it {HERE}. What color combo would you make your wreath?
Hey, y'all! Last week I got tired of having a snowflake wreath on my front door. I mean, it's springtime now...even thought it hasn't felt like it the past few days. So, anyway, I saw {THIS} door hanging at Second Chance to Dream, and I knew that I just had to make my own version of it.
I started with a frame from Michaels and a wooden letter that I ended up using as a template.
I painted the wreath with Martha Stewart's Pink Flamingo.
That color just sounds perfect for warmer weather, doesn't it? Then I used my wooden letter as a template to make a cardboard letter.
I know from experience that if you use a heavy embellishment on a wreath on one side and don't balance it with something, your wreath will hang crooked. I thought a cardboard letter might remedy this problem.
After I traced the letter, I cut it out. Then I painted it with metallic gold paint.
And since everything is better with glitter, I mixed some extra fine glitter and Mod Podge. I brushed a few coats of the mixture on the letter.
I brushed gold paint on three tiny clothespins because I wanted them to hold my pennant banner, which I made next.
I cut pennant shapes out of coordinating fabric and ribbon. I hot glued a piece of trim on the top of the pennants to create my banner. I added some rhinestones and ric-rac to my letter and hot glued all the embellishments on the wreath.
I used a Command Adhesive hook to attach the wreath to the door.
I love all the fun colors on the wreath, and, of course, I love the glitter and sparkle.
If my bright green door didn't show enough of my personality, now I have this wreath. How do you show your personality on the outside of your house?

Hey, y'all! Today I want to share my very inexpensive winter wreath with you.
I've had my Clemson wreath up since the beginning of football season, but I decided it was time to take it down. When my husband and I were doing some after Christmas shopping at Target, I found the perfect supplies to make a new wreath for winter!
I bought several packages of tinsel garland and a lot of winter-themed ornaments. Of course, everything was like 70% off. I also bought a wreath form from the dollar store.
I started by attaching the end of a tinsel garland to my wreath with a silver pipe cleaner. I wrapped the whole garland around and then fastened the end to the wreath with another pipe cleaner.
I used two packages of tinsel garland and a little bit of another one to completely cover my wreath. Then it was time to attach my embellishments. I REALLY wanted to use the polar bear and penguin ornaments, but I could never find an arrangement with them that I liked. I settled for a bow and snowflake ornaments.
I had some striped ribbon I bought at an after Christmas sale last year that I used to make a large bow. I had some smaller ribbon in my craft stash that coordinated with the striped ribbon. I threaded lengths of those through my snowflakes. I attached all those to the wreath with a pipe cleaner, and, voila, I had a finished winter wreath!
I love how the wreath pops against my green door!
And I hope that just maybe the snowflakes will be a welcome sign for some REAL snow to come visit. I guess I shouldn't hold my breath, though, because it's 75 degrees here today...
Nonetheless, it was nice to be able to put some after Christmas deals to use before next Christmas! You should check out your stash because you may just have the makings of a winter wreath yourself!
Hey, y'all! Today, I want to share the birthday present I made for my mom. She is turning...well, she has a milestone birthday today, and I made her a little something special. She LOVES snowmen! (It borders on obsession!) She wanted a Christmas wreath to go in her living room. She likes those mesh wreaths, so I decided to attempt to combine her love of snowmen with a mesh wreath, and I have to say I LOVE the end product!
I started with a wreath form and a metal baker's rack from the dollar store. I also used wire and white, iridescent mesh "ribbon." (We'll talk about the other supplies later.)
I began by hot glueing and wiring the metal rack to the middle of the wreath form. (Since I was going to fill in the middle of the wreath with the mesh, I had to have something to attach the ribbon to.)
I then simply covered the wreath with the mesh ribbon. (There are plenty of tutorials for covering a wreath with the mesh, so I'm not going to bother trying to explain that. I will suggest that you used pipe cleaners the color of your mesh, though.) I used the whole spool of ribbon in the supply picture, and I still had some gaps. I went to Walmart (the closest craft store to me is forty-five minutes away), and bought some tulle ribbon stuff. I also bought pipe cleaners because, up to this point, I had been using floral wire.
When I finished covering the wreath with the ribbon and tulle stuff (I neglected to take a picture), I had to work on the coal eyes and mouth, the carrot nose, and the top hat. For the eyes and mouth, I used styrofoam balls from the dollar store. For the nose, I used a styrofoam cone from the craft store.
I'm not sure if you know this, but you can't paint plain styrofoam. I googled how to paint styrofoam, though, and came across this article from ThriftyFun. It said you can paint styrofoam if you cover it with a layer of Mod Podge first. So I covered all the pieces with Mod Podge. Then I painted them. (I glittered the nose too, of course!) And to top the piece off, I made a pretty fabulous hat.
To make the hat, I cut a semi-circle out of cardboard for the base and a rectangle for the cylinder. I covered the pieces with spray glue and attached felt to them. I glued the rectangle to the semi-circle. Then I traced the top on a piece of cardboard, cut it out, glued felt to it, and glued it to the top. I glued a cardboard rectangle to the inside of the cylinder to reinforce it. I added a felt band and a dollar store ornament to complete the hat. (I did the same thing on a smaller scale for my embroidery hoop snowman. There are more photos for that hat, so if you don't understand what I just typed, check it out.) Then I attached all the pieces to the wreath.
I stuck pipe cleaners through the backs of the styrofoam pieces. (Stick a toothpick in the pieces and pull it out so your pipe cleaners will stick in easily.) I stuck the pipe cleaners through the mesh where I wanted the eyes, nose, and mouth to go. I wrapped the pipe cleaners around the metal rack. I pretty much did the same thing for the hat.
I hot glued several pipe cleaners to the back of the hat and threaded those through the mesh and wrapped them around the metal rack as well. Then I was finally finished!
I have to say that I REALLY love this guy! I had this vision of what he would look like in my head, and he turned out better than I imagined. I LOVE when that happens!
My favorite part about the whole thing is the hat. My husband actually called it "awesome."
I gave the snowman to my mom after her surprise birthday party Saturday night, and he is now proudly hanging in her living room over her mantle. I'm kind of a little sad that he didn't get to stay with me, but I'm glad that she loves him. Merry Christmas!
Last year, I made a Clemson wreath for my front door. I left it up until recently when there was a weird substance growing on it. After I threw it away, I knew that I needed to make another wreath. So I did!
I started with a grapevine wreath, burlap, ribbon, and material.
I cut strips of burlap and wrapped it around the wreath.
I wrapped purple ribbon around the burlap.
Then I added different embellishments with fabric and felt, buttons, and glass gems.
I reused the banner from my old Clemson wreath.
I was worried at first that it looked too "grandma-ish." But I think I like it a little better now.
It's definitely not the best wreath I've ever seen, but for a person who always struggles with finding the right "balance" with wreath embellishments, I think it will do. :)
You would think that by now I would have shown you tutorials for everything in my newly redecorated craft room, but that's not the case. I still have a few more projects to share with you. One of those is how I created my book page wreath. It started with a wreath form that I purchased from the dollar store.
I cut LOTS of circles out of a large book I also purchased from the dollar store. And to mix it up a bit, I cut the same size circles from coffee filters too.
I wrapped each circle around the end of a pencil, put hot glue on it, and stuck it to the wreath form until it dried.
Yeah, this step took a while. When I had the wreath finished, it definitely needed some embellishments. I purchased a paper mache bird from the dollar section at Michaels. I covered it in glue and glittered the body of it. I painted the beak gold, and glued rhinestones to the bird for eyes. (I sprayed the bird with clear spray paint to try to keep the glitter from ending up all over the house.) I used my Silhouette to create a banner that says "Create."
I glued the banner to some thin rope. I glued some small clothespins to the wreath to hold the banner, and I glued the bird to the wreath. But I needed something to place the wreath on to make it stand out. I had this mirror laying around the house. It needed a new look. (And it really just needed out of the pile of junk it had been sitting in forever.)
I gave it a new life by spraying it with same the turquoise Valspar spray paint that I used to paint the bench I stole saved from my neighbor's trash. I hung the mirror on the wall. Then I hung the wreath on the mirror using one of those suction cup hooks. (I don't know where it came from. I found it when I was organizing my craft room.) It's the perfect decor for the wall over my desk.
I love the glittery pink bird.
I HAD to have something glittery and pink in my craft room. It just wouldn't be fair to my blog name if I didn't!
With a few dollars and a lot of work, I now have something pretty took look at when I'm crafting. And that, to me, is inspiring. :)
