How to Make a Gratitude Journal from Card Stock

Hey, y'all!  Let me start by saying first that I can't believe it's November already.  Where has the time gone? Every year when November rolls around, I see people start posting what they're thankful for every day of the month on Facebook.  I always think that's such a great idea, but I never do it.  This year, I learned that Shanna Noel of Illustrated Faith was doing a Gratitude Documented challenge during the month, and I knew I wanted to participate, so I decided to make myself a gratitude journal with just enough pages for each day of the month.  I shared my handmade journal on Instagram and had a request to show everyone how I made it.  Of course, I had to oblige, so today I'm sharing a video tutorial showing you how to create a journal from paper.  This process is so easy, and the best part about it is that you can personalize your journal.

You only need a few supplies to make your own journal:
  • Cardstock
  • Awl (or hammer and nail)
  • Needle and Thread (or long reach stapler)
  • Scrapbook Paper
  • Mod Podge
  • Foam Brush
  • Embellishments for the Cover
  • Glue
Take a look at the video below to see how easy it really is to make your own journal.
As you saw in the video, I stitched my journal together, but if you have a long reach, heavy duty stapler, you could most definitely staple the journal and skip the whole sewing part.  Also, if you use copy paper for the inside of the notebook instead of card stock, you can probably sew the pages together with a sewing machine.  (I chose to use card stock so that I could work with mixed media on my pages.)

If you want to follow along with the Gratitude Documented Challenge, head over to Illustrated Faith and sign up for the newsletter to get weekly prompts.  If you want to participate but don't want to make a journal yourself, you can check out the Illustrated Faith Etsy Shop and buy a pre-made journal that comes with a really fun stamp set.
No matter how you choose to count your blessings, let's focus on being thankful this month, and maybe, just maybe, we'll all start a new habit of being more conscious of the many blessings God has given us.
