Handmade Felt Flower Hair Clip

Hey, y'all!  Happy Hump Day!  We're halfway to the weekend!  Woo hoo!  Now that we've celebrated, let's talk about today's post.  I have two nieces who I think are just the cutest little girls ever, and they like hair bows.  Well, my friend Tara from Suburble has been using her Sizzix machine to make lots of pretty hair accessories for her daughters.  The bows and clips she made were adorable, and they inspired me to try my hand at making some pretty hair clips for my nieces.

I was able to make two hair clips quickly and inexpensively.  So today I want to show you how to easily make a Handmade Felt Flower Hair Clip using your Sizzix BIGkick.  And when I say easily, I mean SERIOUSLY easy!

To make your own hair clip, you'll need the following supplies:
Sizzix BIGkick
A Pair of Standard Size Cutting Pads
Sizzix Bigz Die-Flower Layers & Leaf #2
Felt
Scissors
Alligator Hair Clip
Rhinestones
Hot Glue Gun
Glue Sticks

The first step to creating the flower clips is using your Sizzix BIGkick and Bigz flower die to cut felt.  That's right; you can use Bigz dies to cut way more than just paper!  If you're going to make the pieces of your flower different colors, cut pieces of felt to fit over the various components of the flower on the die.  (See picture above.)  Lay those pieces of felt over the die and place that inside a pair of standard size cutting pads.  Roll that through your BIGkick to cut the flower pieces.

For the leaf,  I wanted to have a dark background, so I cut a darker piece of felt to fit behind the leaf cut-out made by my die.  Then it was time to assemble the pieces.

I cut a small rectangle of felt and sandwiched it between a metal alligator hair clip.  I used hot glue to secure the top of the clip to the felt.  Then I simply used hot glue to assemble the flower pieces from largest to smallest on top of the hair clip.  I then attached the lighter leaf cut out to the top of the darker leaf and attached that to the back of the flower using more hot glue.

And since y'all know I love sparkles and rhinestone, I used hot glue to attach small rhinestones to the center of my flowers.  Once everything was assembled, I used my hair dryer to blast hot air over the flowers to remover any of those pesky glue spider webs.  Then my hair clips were complete.

And, yes, since I have two nieces, I had to make two hair clips.  I don't want them to think I play favorites.

Unfortunately, I didn't have my nieces around when I was photographing the hair clips, so I clipped one in my own hair and snapped a picture.  The clip would look much cuter on one of them, but you get the idea.  I love that you could glue pins instead of hair clips on the back of the flowers to make a brooch, a bag embellishment, or even an embellishment for a scarf.  The flowers would even make a cute dog collar embellishment.  I was tempted to put one on Daisy Doodle's collar and photograph her wearing it, but that crazy dog will hardly ever stay still for a picture when I want her to.  Maybe one day...
As usual, I hope you'll consider pinning this tutorial or sharing it on social media if you like it.  Enjoy the rest of your week!
