{Show Some Love: Valentine Chevron Frame}

I'm so excited to be part of the Show Some Love Blog Hop hosted by One Tough Mother!  February 1st through the 14th, many awesome bloggers are showing some Valentine love on their blogs.
Today, I'm sharing how to make my Valentine Chevron Frame.

I first started with this frame that I primed with gesso.  This frame was an unfinished wood frame that I had previously painted but didn't like.  The gesso allowed me to cover up the paint I had previously used.

After the gesso dried, I painted the frame a pretty pink color.

After the pink paint dried, it was time to figure out how to get the chevron stripes on the frame.  I used a triangle I cut out of card stock to create the pattern.

I traced the top of the triangle, scooted the template over so the corner of the traced triangle touched the card stock triangle, and traced the template again.  When I started on the next row, I scooted the card stock triangle down an amount I thought would be good for the thickness of stripes I desired and traced the triangle again.  I did this until the frame was covered.  Then I had to tape off the lines.  (This step was the most stressful for me because I am a perfectionist and getting measurements exactly correct is not by best skill!)

After taping off the stripes, I used the pink color to paint over the edges of the tape.  This keeps the other color of paint from seeping under the tape.  Then I painted with the white.

After the paint dried and I took off the tape, I sprayed the frame with a clear spray paint.  Then it was time to add a little Valentine pizazz to the frame.  I decided to add a string heart to the frame.  I used my Silhouette to cut a heart out of card stock, and I made even pencil marks around the heart.

I stuck the heart to the frame with painter's tape.  Then I placed nails around the heart on each pencil mark. (I found these awesome little rose gold looking nails at Lowe's.)

I then tied hot pink embroidery floss to the bottom nail and started wrapping.  After the whole heart was wrapped to my liking, I tied a knot around another nail.  I rubbed Liquid Stitch around the outside string to prevent it from ever sliding off the nails.

Since the frame didn't come with glass, I bought a 5x7 frame from the dollar store and put the glass from it in my frame.  For now, I put the frame's backing behind the picture and taped it in place.  (I plan on getting hardware to attach the frame's backing later.)  Now I have an awesome Valentine frame that I can keep up year round!

I love the chevron pattern!

And the heart is cute too.

Now I have somewhere to display my (current) favorite photo of me and my Valentine. :)  I'm so glad that I got to share this project as part of the Show Some Love Blog Hop.
