{PaperClip & String Valentine Earrings}

When I was making gifts before Christmas, I stumbled upon this great tutorial by Evie S. for geometric earrings made from paperclips and string.  I wanted to make some of these, but I simply ran out of time.  Since Valentine's day is approaching, I decided to try to make my own version of Evie's earrings.  I created my PaperClip & String Valentine Earrings.

I started the project with paper clips, red string, and Liquid Stitch.  (Later, I used earring hooks.)

I first had to figure out how to make a heart out of the paper clip.  This is what I came up with.

I opened all the parts of the paper clip.  Then I used a small pair of pliers to create the "V" at the top of the heart.  Then I begin attaching the string to the paper clip.

I cut a piece of string that I thought would be long enough to cover the entire paper clip.  I knotted the string around the bottom of the heart.  I squeezed out a blob of Liquid Stitch on a piece of paper and used my finger to apply some of it to the paper clip.  Then I wrapped the string around the paper clip, adding more Liquid Stitch as needed.  When I got to the part where the clip was in two pieces, I used pliers to hold the pieces together while I wrapped the string around the wire and secured it with glue.  When I had the wire covered with string, I wrapped the string around the whole heart in a random pattern.  I ended up with two string covered hearts.

I attached an earring hook to each heart.  Then my super inexpensive, modern pair of Valentine earrings was finished.

I think they look pretty.

I can wear them with a t-shirt and cute scarf or with a sweater.

Whatever I wear them with, they will be the perfect Valentine's addition to my wardrobe.  Or I could give them away as a Valentine's gift!  :)
