{Cupcake Hair Clip}

For  Christmas, I got my niece a dress covered in a cupcake pattern.  I love making her hair clips, so I decided to make her a hair clip to match her dress.  You can do this with any design you can draw.  Here's how I made her cute clip.
To make the clip, I used different color felt, scissors, fabric glue, ribbon, hot glue, puff paint, and an alligator hair clip.  First, I chose the cupcake that I wanted to copy from the dress.  There were lots of different cupcakes on the dress, but I decided on the one with the pink base and the white swirly top.
I then sketched a copy of the cupcake on card stock.  (If you want to make a cupcake hair clip, you can probably right click and save the photo below and use it as a pattern.  I'm not sure, though, because I've never tried it myself...)

I then cut out the cupcake and pinned it to brown felt.  I wanted a layered look for the cupcake so the brown felt was for the base layer.
After cutting the brown felt, I cut the frosting and the cupcake base into to separate pieces.  I pinned the frosting to the white felt and the cupcake base to the pink felt and cut both pieces out.
I wanted the frosting to have the swirls like the pattern I created, so I cut tiny slits in the white felt to create the swirls.  (When glued, the brown felt will show through the slits to create the swirls.)  I then glued the frosting and the cupcake base to the brown felt.
To make the cupcake extra cute, it needed a face just like the cupcake on the dress.  I used puff paint to create the face.
I also used puff paint to add sprinkles to the cupcake.  And because I couldn't leave my youngest niece out, I made her a different cupcake.  I covered two alligator hair clips with ribbon using hot glue.  I sandwiched a small piece of felt between the clips to have a bigger base to attach the cupcakes to.
I hot glued the cupcakes to the alligator clips.  Then the cupcake hair clips were complete!  Here are my nieces rockin' their new hair clips.
I snapped two pictures of my oldest niece.
My littlest niece was a bit wiggly, so this was the best photo I could get of her.
Both girls looked adorable wearing their new accessories...but they always look adorable! :)  I think the hair clips would be even cuter if I had used wool felt instead of polyester felt.  I may have to buy some from Etsy for my next hair clip project.
