Vintage-Inspired Shabby Pumpkin: A Dollar Store Craft

Hey, y'all!  I told you Monday that over the weekend I gave several dollar store pumpkins a makeover.  And I also told you that because I'm sharing those makeovers this week, I'm declaring this dollar store pumpkin makeover week here on the blog.  So today I have a brand new makeover for you.  This pumpkin makeover is vintage-inspired, and while it's a little more shabby than chic, I know that a lot of people are fans of this style.  I'm calling it my Vintage-Inspired Shabby Pumpkin.

To recreate this look, you'll need a few supplies...

Supplies:
Paint a dollar store pumpkin with chalk paint to transform it. www.pitterandglink.com
First, carefully remove the pumpkin stem.  Then paint the pumpkin with a couple of coats of chalk paint.
Deep brown wax gives a beige pumpkin a vintage look. www.pitterandglink.com
Once the paint dries, use a soft cloth to rub antiquing wax all over the pumpkin, following the directions on the wax container.  Once the wax has dried, buff it with another soft cloth.

Use hot glue to attach a bit of spanish moss to the top of the pumpkin.  Use more hot glue to attach the ceramic knob on top of that to create the pumpkin's stem.  Then your shabby pumpkin is complete.

I love the rustic look of the pumpkin.

And believe it or not, it looks great paired with the much more modern looking pumpkin I posted Monday.  Isn't mixing decor styles fun?
I have one more pumpkin makeover up my sleeve (at least for now) that I'll be sharing at the end of the week, so stay tuned!
