Easy-to-Make DIY Leather Earrings

Hey, y'all!  I am a huge fan of handmade jewelry.  Why?  Well, I love that with just a few inexpensive supplies you can quickly and easily create beautiful jewelry that looks pricey.  With the holiday season right around the corner, handmade jewelry is an awesome gift idea, so today I'm going to show you how to make some really pretty leather earrings perfect for the jewelry lover on your gift list.
Easy-to-Make Leather Earrings
My favorite thing about these earrings is that they're sooo light!  You can make a large pair of these, and when you wear them, you may forget you're wearing earrings.  They're that light, y'all!  And like I said, they're really easy to make.  Let me show you how...

To make your own leather earrings, you'll need a few supplies.  I'll list them along with links.  The links are affiliate links, which is a fancy way of saying that if you choose to buy anything using one of my links, you'll be helping to support my blog at no extra charge to you.  (Thanks!)

Supplies:

The above supplies are for making the rectangular earrings.  If you want to make the teardrop shaped earrings, check out this tutorial.

The first step to making the earrings is cutting the leather.  This is so easy using your Sizzix Big Shot, the Tiny Tabs & Tags Bigz Die, and Sizzix leather!
Take your leather and place it face down on top of the part of the die you'd like to use for your earrings.  Sandwich the leather and die between a pair of Standard Size Cutting Pads and roll through your Sizzix Big Shot.
Repeat the process so that you have two matching leather shapes.
To add some interest to my earrings, I added some gold spray paint to my leather.  Of course this is optional, but ombre and color blocking is trendy.  For the bronze tag earrings and the white teardrop earrings, I created an ombre effect by only spraying the paint below the bottom of the shapes.  The overspray from the paint will create the ombre effect.  Of course, this showed up better on the white leather than on the bronze.  For the white tag earrings, I used painters tape to tape off the corner of each tag.  Then I sprayed the corner of the earrings for a color blocked look.
When the paint is dry, add ear hooks to your leather shapes.  Simply use round nose jewelry pliers to open the loops on the bottom of the ear wires.  Thread on the leather shapes and use the pliers to close the loops.  This completes your earrings.
