Hand-Lettered Elf Food Groups T-Shirt + Free Cut File

This post contains affiliate links.  Thanks for supporting Pitter & Glink!
Hey, y'all!  Are you starting to get into the holiday spirit yet?  I can't wait for Thanksgiving, but I'm most excited for Christmas!  I went to the Southern Christmas Show this weekend, and I have been listening to Christmas music, and, yes, I've even watched a Christmas movie already.  I adore Christmas movies, and one of my favorites is Elf.  Last week, I watched Elf, and while watching it, I hand-lettered the four main elf food groups.  Why?  So I could make a cool Elf-Inspired t-shirt with some festive heat transfer vinyl sent to me by Expressions Vinyl!  And as usual, I'm sharing the free cut file with you so that you can make your own.  As if that wasn't enough awesomeness for one post, I'm also teaming up with the oh-so-talented Alexis of Persia Lou and twenty one other fabulous bloggers to share some really awesome vinyl posts with you in anticipation of Alexis's brand new vinyl course that she's created for Craftsy.  AND--that's right, I'm not done yet--there is a FABULOUS giveaway at the end of the post!

Let's get started with this elf food groups tee tutorial so that you can whip yourself up one for the holidays!

Supplies to make your own graphic tee
In true Bethany fashion, I totally forgot to take a picture of the supplies I used to make this shirt, so I pulled this photo from another post where I basically used the same supplies.  (Other than the fact that I have a Silhouette Cameo now...)  So here's what you'll need to make your own shirt.  I've linked to some of the products used with affiliate links.  This is a fancy way of saying that if you purchase something using one of my links, a small portion of the purchase price goes toward helping to support my blog at no extra cost to you.  (Thanks!!!)

Supplies:

FREE Hand-Lettered Elf-Inspired Cut File

Step One:

Download the FREE hand-lettered elf food groups cut file that I created.
Open the cut file using Silhouette studio.  Size it to fit your tee and mirror the design.  (You must mirror the design because when you cut vinyl with your Silhouette, you are essentially cutting the back of the vinyl.)
Cutting Hand-Lettered Design from HTV

Step Two:

After your design is the correct size and has been mirrored, load your HTV into your Silhouette Cameo shiny side down and cut the vinyl using the recommended settings for your machine.  Don't forget to always do a test cut first to keep yourself from wasting vinyl!
Weeding Vinyl

Step Three:

Weed your cut design.  Weeding is a fancy way of saying you remove the excess vinyl from around your design.  A weeding tool is always helpful for this step.  Also, be extra careful with a design that's this intricate, because I realized that there were two small pieces that I didn't remove when it was too late! *insert sad face*
Ironing a hand-lettered HTV design

Step Four:

Find the correct placement for the design on your t-shirt.  I always like to use a sewing gage when I'm trying to get my placement right.  Once your design is where you want it, iron it on your shirt following the recommended settings for your vinyl.  Once your design is ironed, your shirt is complete!

Isn't it cute?  I wish I were an elf like Buddy so that I too could live off of the four elf food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corn, and syrup!
Make Your Own Elf-Inspired T-shirt
I love that you can put this design on anything.  I may make a mug before Christmas, and I think a piece of art with this on it would be fab too!

I'm also tempted to make another tee using glitter HTV because I LIVE for that stuff!
