Colorful Handmade Butterfly Gift Tag

This post contains affiliate links and is a Sizzix Design Team post.
Hey, y'all!  I know the first official day of summer isn't until later in the month, but at the Pitter and Glink household, we have summer on the brain majorly.  We are officially out of school, and we are enjoying a much-needed, long-awaited break!  I have been using some of my new-found freedom to craft, so today I am popping in to share a fun, bright Butterfly Gift Tag with you.  I made this tag using my Sizzix BIGkick, various dies, and Distress Crayons.  The bright colors are perfect for summer, and you can whip one of these up in no time!

To make your own Butterfly gift tag, you'll need a few supplies.

I'm going to link to the supplies I used below using affiliate links.  This is a fancy way of saying that if you choose to purchase something through one of my links, you'll be supporting my blog at no extra charge to you.  (Thanks!)  And as with most of the tutorials I share, you don't need to have every single item I used to create my tag; you can do your own thing with only a few of the supplies listed below.
Supply List:

Step One

Create your tags by placing some of the gift tag Framelits on a piece of paper leather.  Sandwich that between two Standard Size Cutting Pads.  Place that on the Extended Multipurpose Platform and roll through your Sizzix BIGkick.

Step Two

Place the tag between an embossing folder.  Sandwich that between two Standard Size Cutting Pads and place on the bottom layer of the Extended Multipurpose Platform and roll through your BIGkick. Paper leather embosses beautifully, so you will love how the embossed tag looks!

Step Three

Add color to the embossed tag using Distress Crayons.  The crayons can be used many different ways, but for this tag, I simply colored over the tag in spots with the crayon and blended the color over the raised area of the embossed design using my fingers.

Step Four

Create the butterfly for your tag as well as the label.  Place a piece of Sizzix paper over the butterfly thinlit.  Sandwich that between a pair of Standard Size Cutting Pads.  Place that on top of the Extended Multipurpose Platform and roll through your BIGkick.

Repeat the above process using the Label Thinlits in place of the Butterfly Thinlits.

Step Five

Cut letters for "Hi" using the alphabet die.  Place paper over the die, sandwich between a pair of Extended Size Cutting Pads and roll through your BIGkick.  Repeat with a darker color paper if you'd like to create shadowed letters like I did.

Step Six

Embellish and assemble the gift tag.  You can add definition to the edge of your letters and label using distress ink and a blending tool.  You can trace around the butterfly, letters, and label with a marker.  Once you add your "extras" to the paper pieces, adhere them all to your tag using an adhesive roller.  To finish the tag, add fabric strips and baker's twine to the top.

This is such a colorful tag!  Pop it in the mail for a friend or attach it to the top of a beautifully wrapped present.

  1. So many incredible projects, wish I had more of needed supplies to make butterfly tag, bit out of my paltry budget to buy them if could find them in Grand Junction. Do have Sizzix Big shot, ashamed to say haven't used it for far too long.
love all your great projects, would love to make mason jar shaker card. Will print out tutorials for projects then buy needed supplies little at a time when/if see them on sale or with coupon. Glad you shared all these projects as know would make and use as gifts or to decorate my house. I like to try something before I make for gift. Have fun weekend
