For the past few days, I've been busy making gifts for family and friends. I found a simple recipe for Lemon Hand Scrub from the Crafty Scientist and Peppermint Bath Salt from The Letter 4. You may already have the ingredients for the hand scrub at home (sugar, EVOO, and lemon juice), and the ingredients for the bath salt are not too hard to find (Epsom salt, regular salt, and peppermint oil). You can click on the links above to find the recipes. I'm going to show you how I packaged my gifts.
Let me start with the Lemon Hand Scrub. I bought a twelve pack of jelly jars from Dollar General and some spray paint from Walmart. I had the other supplies on hand. First, I took the lids of the jars and painted the bands with spray paint.
Then I cut circles out of scrapbook paper to fit the top of the lids. I used Mod Podge to glue the paper to the lids.
I distressed some paper tags with brown ink.
I stamped "Lemon Hand Scrub" onto the tags with black ink. I used a yellow marker to fill in the "L."
I filled the jars with the scrub and tied the tags to the jars using rope and yarn. I attached a small wooden popsicle stick to the jar for stirring. Then my jars were complete.
I really like the vintage look of the jars. I used different scrapbook paper on the lids, but I think my favorite is the hounds tooth pattern.
I used the same method to decorate the jars for the bath salt. Since the bath salts were peppermint flavored, I used a pink color scheme.
I used different papers for these too.
When my dad saw the hand scrub, he said he wanted some. So I made him his own non-girly jar.
I labeled his "Manly Scrub" so that he would know it was just for him. And I couldn't help but put a pink mustache on the tag. I think it pokes fun at the masculine vs. girly hand scrub issue. :)
If you don't have gifts for everyone on your list yet, consider making some of these. They're easy to make, but packaged right, they show you cared enough to take the time to make something special for that special someone. And I can't end this post without sharing this super cute picture with you.
Lily got a Christmas haircut today so that she will look pretty for Santa. I took this picture after she got all gussied up. Isn't she a cutie?! Merry Christmas!
